SUMMARY:CE Workshop | Book Discussion\, IS THIS YOGA?
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Anya Foxen and Dr. Christa Kuberry visit concepts\, histories\, and the complexities of modern yoga practice. Their recent book Is This Yoga? asks readers to get comfortable with the contradictions that are inherent in yoga’s past and present. Both authors provide us with a rigorously researched and accessible view that is flexible enough to move between and amongst a variety of definitions\, understandings\, and practices of yoga. This book explicitly strives to center the idea of diversity\, conversation\, and change when it comes to the story of yoga as we continue to critically question—is this yoga at all? Is This Yoga? is essential reading for undergraduate students approaching the topic for the first time\, as well as yoga teachers\, teacher training programs\, casual and devoted practitioners\, and interested non-practitioners.

SUMMARY:CE Workshop Series | Yoga Ethics and Activism\, Part 3
DESCRIPTION:This three-part workshop explores how yoga ethics may not be what many have come to expect in a Westernized world. Explore how yoga is a basic ethical theory that rivals familiar theories present in South Asia and the West\, and how asana was not primarily a physical practice\, but rather a philosophical exercise of ethics. Consider how colonialism continues to marginalize yoga ethics in contemporary discourse and make room for non-colonized yoga ethics. Part 3 focuses on yoga ethics and activism.

SUMMARY:CE Workshop Series | Yoga Ethics and South Asian Alternatives\, Part 2
DESCRIPTION:This three-part workshop explores how yoga ethics may not be what many have come to expect in a Westernized world. Explore how yoga is a basic ethical theory that rivals familiar theories present in South Asia and the West\, and how asana was not primarily a physical practice\, but rather a philosophical exercise of ethics. Consider how colonialism continues to marginalize yoga ethics in contemporary discourse and make room for non-colonized yoga ethics. Part 2 focuses on yoga ethics and South Asian Alternatives.

SUMMARY:CE Workshop Series | Mantra Mālā – Mantra is Prāṇāyāma\, Part 3
DESCRIPTION:Traditionally in India\, mantra is the first introduction and practice of pranayama. In each Mantra Mālā offering\, yoga lovers will befriend a Sanskrit Saṃskṛtá alphabet in its physical form\, learn how it sounds\, and what the esoteric significance of the alphabet is. We will also look at how it occurs in a few familiar yoga words. Learn a mantra and how to chant it with correct Vedic intonation\, so the sound strikes in the body and energetically precisely where it should\, bringing the visceral magic and abundance of this practice alive.

SUMMARY:Panel Discussion | Evolution of Yoga Summit and Blueprint\, Part 3: Cultural Appropriation
DESCRIPTION:With the confluence of Yoga teachers of various lineages and cultures\, the Cultural Appropriation Track at this conference invites practitioners to explore questions and nuances raised within the context of Yoga and cultural appropriation. We will consider the fine line between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation. We will also assess the impacts within the Indian and South Asian diasporic context as well as within Black and Indigenous Native American cultures. Cultural appropriation involves a degeneration of primordial cultural rituals and wisdom\, so we will also explore the depth\, creativity\, and richness of indigenous rites and practices that are often missing from Modern Postural Yoga practices. We will explore and practice restoration of ancestral wisdom and other Yogic cultural elements.
