CE Workshop | Aging with Balance Through Yoga: Working with the Elderly by Strengthening Six Anti-Gravity Muscles, Part 1

with Laura Staton. Six anti-gravity muscle groups are strongly used in yoga practice and become even more essential to focus on when working with an aging population. Engagement of these muscles increases postural control and decreases the risk of falls by allowing for greater neck range of motion and peripheral vision. Learn how utilizing and strengthening these muscle groups is essential to improving posture, core support, and head positioning.

with Pooja Virani. This three-part series discusses how to make yoga classes more LGBTQ+ and body positive inclusive by integrating modern social movements and ancient history. Topics explored include, the (mis)representation of LGBTQ+ persons in yoga and society, how this contributes to harm, and the need for greater representation in yoga and community spaces. Stories of LGBTQ+ historical and mythological figures are shared, as well as their lessons for the future. CE Workshop | Aging with Balance Through Yoga: Fall Prevention, Balance Training, and Transfers for the Aging Population, Part 2

In an older population, it is imperative to improve balance to decrease the risk of falls, which are common in day-to-day activities such as standing up from a chair, getting out of bed, or using the bathroom. Explore balance training strategies through occupational therapy and yoga therapy techniques and learn safe transfer techniques that strengthen the body and help prevent falls.

CE Workshop | Object-Driven Meditation and Social Action

with Christopher Rzigalinski (RYT 200). Yoga scholar, practitioner, and museologist Christopher Rzigalinski invites us to reconsider how we relate to the material day-to-day world. Discuss how social and environmental injustices are linked to histories of Western thought, resulting in social and political tensions that haunt us today. In addition, explore cultivating spiritual activism and turning intention into action with a guided object-driven meditation practice. This workshop empowers us to begin the collaboration and community-building needed for sustainable change.

CE Workshop | Understanding the Pelvic Floor in Yoga Practice

with Jenny Loftus (E-RYT 500, YACEP). Using the pelvic floor musculature as support for the breath and body is often misunderstood. Yoga practitioners are regularly encouraged to engage “Mula Bandha” without an understanding of what is involved, leaving students confused and tense from effort. This workshop shines light on the anatomy of the pelvic basin, creating awareness of physical patterns, and how to use the pelvis as a ground for support and freedom in practice.

This loss is multi-dimensional, from the physical rehabilitation to the changes in body image, relationships, and accessibility. This workshop explores the top ten tips to making your yoga classes more accessible to amputees. Marsha Therese Danzig, a below knee amputee and founder of Yoga for Amputees, offers expert guidance on how to safely, effectively, and compassionately offer amputees the opportunity to reclaim their wholeness through yoga.
