SUMMARY:CE Workshop Series | From Doing Yoga to Being Yoga: Embodying Three Sacred Teachings of Our Tradition\, Embracing Transformation
DESCRIPTION:We can “do” yoga for years\, but it’s only when we infuse our practice with the wisdom of the tradition that we fully embody yoga’s transformative power. This is when we go from simply doing yoga to being yoga. Inspired by presenter Barrie Risman’s best-selling book\, Evolving Your Yoga: Ten Principles for Enlightened Practice\, this three-part series explores powerful and foundational understandings that will unlock greater meaning for your practice and teaching\, and profoundly shift the way you approach and share yoga. Each session includes contemplative inquiry\, meditation and breath work practices\, and concrete\, practical ways to bring the wisdom of yoga into your classes. Part 1 focuses on embracing transformation.

SUMMARY:CE Workshop | Mantra Mālā - Mantra as Prāṇāyāma\, Part 2
DESCRIPTION:Traditionally in India\, mantra is the first introduction and practice of pranayama. In each Mantra Mālā offering\, yoga lovers will befriend a Sanskrit Saṃskṛtá alphabet in its physical form\, learn how it sounds\, and what the esoteric significance of the alphabet is. We will also look at how it occurs in a few familiar yoga words. Learn a mantra and how to chant it with correct Vedic intonation\, so the sound strikes in the body and energetically precisely where it should\, bringing the visceral magic and abundance of this practice alive.

SUMMARY:Panel Discussion | Evolution of Yoga Summit and Blueprint\, Part 3: Cultural Appropriation
DESCRIPTION:With the confluence of Yoga teachers of various lineages and cultures\, the Cultural Appropriation Track at this conference invites practitioners to explore questions and nuances raised within the context of Yoga and cultural appropriation. We will consider the fine line between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation. We will also assess the impacts within the Indian and South Asian diasporic context as well as within Black and Indigenous Native American cultures. Cultural appropriation involves a degeneration of primordial cultural rituals and wisdom\, so we will also explore the depth\, creativity\, and richness of indigenous rites and practices that are often missing from Modern Postural Yoga practices. We will explore and practice restoration of ancestral wisdom and other Yogic cultural elements.

SUMMARY:CE Workshop | Teaching Yoga for Big Bodies
DESCRIPTION:As a plus-size yoga practitioner and teacher\, presenter Kady Lafferty of Big Booty Yoga has spent years exploring and learning more physically comfortable ways to access yoga postures and flow more freely in a big body. This 75-minute workshop equips teachers with tools to empower students of all sizes so they will feel seen and appreciated. Walk away with tips and tricks to accommodate curves\, hips\, bellies\, and busts.

SUMMARY:CE Workshop | Lower Back Pain and the Iliopsoas
DESCRIPTION:Approximately 80 precent of the population suffers from chronic\, or episodic\, lower back pain. This can occur for many different reasons\, yet how we move\, sleep\, and sit can dramatically impact our backs’ health. Often\, proper balancing of the deep flexor muscles of the “core” with the extensor muscles of the lower back/pelvis can improve low back pain—and yoga is a wonderful medium for this to occur! This workshop discusses the functioning of the iliopsoas muscle\, the alignment of the pelvis\, and the risks of excessive sitting and poor sleep hygiene. It also provides guidance on how to address and trouble-shoot our students’ and personal lower back pain.

SUMMARY:Panel Discussion | Evolution of Yoga Summit and Blueprint\, Part 2: Equity and Racism
DESCRIPTION:While whiteness is positioned to have access to practices that are healing and liberating\, we know many BIPOC are suffering with disproportionate rates of hypertension\, heart disease\, racial trauma\, and the impacts of being made invisible by culture. When we leave race out of a conversation about yoga\, we reinforce the idea that some are meant to suffer while others are meant to be healed and liberated. A focus on race allows us to deepen our understanding of the intersection of capitalism and the industry of yoga\, and to consider how we can truly move beyond inclusion and create a liberatory space where those marginalized based on race can practice self-determination and create conditions for themselves to thrive.

SUMMARY:CE Workshop | Finding Your Ideal Yoga Students\, Part 2
DESCRIPTION:It can be tempting to dive head-first into the largest yoga market you can find and see how things go. However\, tackling a big market right away is not always a wise idea. Aiming too high too fast can cause you to stretch your resources thinly and become overwhelmed. On the other hand\, getting your start in a smaller (or niche) market is almost always a solid yoga business plan. Targeting a smaller customer base will enable you to pivot your product faster\, scale seamlessly\, and create opportunity to engage with your users regularly. This workshop takes a closer look at the benefits of defining your niche market and guides you through the process with easy-to-understand steps.
