Yoga Lineages | An Introduction to Integral Yoga

In this event, host Kim Weeks and Swami Asokananda, President and Spiritual Director of the New York Integral Yoga Institute, explore the origins, evolution, and modern-day story of Integral Yoga. This practice synthesizes six branches of yoga into a comprehensive lifestyle system: Hatha, Raja, Bhakti, Karma, Jnana, and Japa.
Yoga continues to evolve to include deeply varied styles and types of practice, all rooted in a shared ancient history. Yoga Lineages is a series of conversations that explores seven of today’s most widely recognized yoga lineages, revealing what is unique about these practices. Whether you’re seeking peace of mind, strength in body, or are simply interested in finding a more mindful way of living, yoga can help and is a practice for all.

Yoga Lineages | Integral Yoga Practice

Practice Integral Yoga in this asana class. This lineage synthesizes six branches of yoga into a comprehensive lifestyle system: Hatha, Raja, Bhakti, Karma, Jnana, and Japa. This multi-level Integral Yoga class strikes a balance between “ha” (heating solar energies), and “tha” (cooling lunar energies), generating both strength and flexibility. Move with meditative awareness and allow time for the body to release more fully. Get in touch with the vital force (prana) that lies underneath the physical sensations.

Yoga Lineages | An Introduction to Viniyoga

In this event, wellness expert Kim Weeks and Gary Kraftsow, Founder and Director of the American Viniyoga Institute, explore the origins, evolution, and modern-day story of the lineage of Viniyoga: a comprehensive and authentic transmission of the teachings of yoga including asana, pranayama, bandha, sound, chanting, meditation, personal ritual, and study of texts. Viniyoga (prefixes vi and ni plus yoga) is an ancient Sanskrit term that implies differentiationadaptation, and appropriate application.
