Panel Discussion | Evolution of Yoga Summit and Blueprint, Part 3: Cultural Appropriation

With the confluence of Yoga teachers of various lineages and cultures, the Cultural Appropriation Track at this conference invites practitioners to explore questions and nuances raised within the context of Yoga and cultural appropriation. We will consider the fine line between cultural appreciation and cultural appropriation. We will also assess the impacts within the Indian and South Asian diasporic context as well as within Black and Indigenous Native American cultures. Cultural appropriation involves a degeneration of primordial cultural rituals and wisdom, so we will also explore the depth, creativity, and richness of indigenous rites and practices that are often missing from Modern Postural Yoga practices. We will explore and practice restoration of ancestral wisdom and other Yogic cultural elements.

CE Workshop | Mantra Mālā – Mantra as Prāṇāyāma, Part 2

Traditionally in India, mantra is the first introduction and practice of pranayama. In each Mantra Mālā offering, yoga lovers will befriend a Sanskrit Saṃskṛtá alphabet in its physical form, learn how it sounds, and what the esoteric significance of the alphabet is. We will also look at how it occurs in a few familiar yoga words. Learn a mantra and how to chant it with correct Vedic intonation, so the sound strikes in the body and energetically precisely where it should, bringing the visceral magic and abundance of this practice alive.

CE Workshop Series | From Doing Yoga to Being Yoga: Embodying Three Sacred Teachings of Our Tradition, Embracing Transformation

CE Workshop | Demystifying the Psoas Major

In the “forest” of the body, the psoas major is a very influential “tree” because it crosses so many joints and significantly impacts the lumbo-sacral-hip complex. For reasons discussed in this workshop, the psoas major can become dysfunctional and contribute to low back and hip problems. Come explore, demystify, and get to know the psoas major in this workshop, which covers anatomy and functions of the psoas major, why it likes to cause trouble, and what we can do about it with wise use of our yoga practice. The event includes both lecture and practice.
