CE Workshop | How to Navigate the Intersection of Yoga and Religion: How to Talk About Yoga as a Sacred Practice, Part 3

In this workshop series for both yoga teachers and practitioners, Hari-kirtana das explores the connection between yoga as a spiritual practice and religion as an expression of faith. This interactive discussion helps participants gain clarity about the theistic aspects of the yoga tradition, the difference between Western conceptions of God and the Vedic conception of the Absolute Truth, the relationship between yoga and Hinduism, how to understand and reconcile dualistic and non-dualistic yoga philosophies, and how to talk about spirituality in a secular environment.

CE Workshop | The Bhagavad Gita: Chapter Two and the Asana, Part 1

Author and longtime yoga practitioner Matthew Sanford hosts a probing multi-part discussion about Chapter Two of the Bhagavad Gita and its possible applications in asana practice. Conversation topics range from setting the historical context for this ancient text to insights that might be drawn from Arjuna’s moral dilemma and Krishna’s responses to him, to how a contemporary practitioner might integrate such insights into their yoga practice. Each session includes a short yoga practice.

CE Workshop | Tibetan Yoga in Contemporary Practice

This workshop offers an introduction to the practice and theory of Tibetan Yoga in contemporary discourse. Dr. James Bae discusses what Tibetan Yoga is, various traditional forms and methodologies, as well as some relationships to and differences from Hatha Yoga. In addition, participants explore issues relative to research, education, and healing in contemporary context; and Dr. James shares an interdisciplinary model which situates traditional goals within modern, scientific discourse.

CE Workshop | Why Yoga Doesn’t Always Mean Union

Unpack the importance of distinctions with Daniel Simpson, a tutor at the Oxford Centre for Hindu Studies and author of The Truth of Yoga. In this workshop, he details how Patañjali’s yoga is not about union. Rather, its ultimate goal is detachment from matter. He also discusses how a dualistic system can also be helpful with worldly objectives, from making wise choices to building relationships.

Panel Discussion | Evolution of Yoga Summit and Blueprint, Kickoff

In this panel, leadership from Yoga Alliance, Accessible Yoga, and Yoga Service Council discuss and highlight the Evolution of Yoga Blueprint document created to raise questions, explore possibilities, and invite change in the areas of yoga and cultural appropriation, racism, consent, and accessibility. This conversation is followed by three more panels that dive deeper with experts in the areas discussed in the Blueprint.

CE Workshop Series | Mantra Mālā – Mantra is Prāṇāyāma, Part 1

Traditionally in India, mantra is the first introduction and practice of pranayama. In each Mantra Mālā offering, yoga lovers will befriend a Sanskrit Saṃskṛtá alphabet in its physical form, learn how it sounds, and what the esoteric significance of the alphabet is. We will also look at how it occurs in a few familiar yoga words. Learn a mantra and how to chant it with correct Vedic intonation, so the sound strikes in the body and energetically precisely where it should, bringing the visceral magic and abundance of this practice alive.
